Imphal, August 22 2025:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in response to the death of Hijam Ibemcha Devi at RIMS has suspended its indefinite blockade on the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway.
The decision was made after a meeting between RIMS authorities and JAC representatives this afternoon, where some demands were discussed and an understanding was reached.
The blockade, which began yesterday afternoon, led to the closure of shops in Sekmai area and a halt in vehicular traffic on the highway.
According to JAC representatives, several demands were placed before the RIMS authority, and after discussions, both parties reached an understanding, resulting in the immediate suspension of the blockade.
Notably, Hijam Ibemcha Devi, a resident of Awang Sekmai Laipat, passed away on August 19 while preparations were underway for surgery at RIMS.
She was admitted on August 14 with a right leg bone fracture.
