Importance of tree plantation to tackle climate change underscored

As a part of the ongoing 75th Van Mahotsava across the country and the mass tree plantation campaign in the State, a plantation drive was held today at Gwarok Mahadev hills under Yairipok Gwarok Forest Range in Thoubal district.
The tree plantation drive was organised by Thoubal Forest Division in collaboration with Kekru Ideal Progressive Committee (KIPC) and Kekru Yairi Club Yairipok (KYCY) under the aegis of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Thoubal Forest Division Dr L Jeeceelee.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr L Jeeceelee appealed to the locals of the region to nurture the newly planted saplings ensuring that they grow properly.
Highlighting the impacts of massive deforestation leading to climate change, she appealed to all to plant as many tree saplings as possible to contribute in maintaining the ecological balance.
She further stated that Thoubal Forest Division will continue to conduct tree plantation drives at different places in association with the residents of the respective regions in a bid to tackle the grave issue of global warming.
In connection with the plantation drive, KYCY secretary L Digen extended gratitude to all who have extended support in today's plantation drive.
Stating that planting trees is an impactful measure to fight against climate, he called for support from all towards this noble initiative.
He also assured that Kekru Yairi Club will take proper care of the planted saplings.
Meanwhile, KIPC general secretary Thangjam Nokul Meitei appealed to all contact KIPC before organising picnics or other activities at Gwarok hills to help in maintaining cleanliness and sanctity of the place.
He also cautioned that the individuals concerned will be held responsible for any unwanted outcome which may arise from such activities without intimating the committee.
Range Forest Officer Thoubal Dineshchandra Salam; Yairipok Municipal Council former Chairperson L Kamala Devi; Yairipok Police Station Officer in-charge N Suresh; officers and staff of Thoubal Forest Division; KIPC secretary Th Nokul Meitei, All Yairipok United Clubs Organisation (AYUCO) and KYCY Secretary Longjam Digen and members of KIPC and KYCY also took part in today's drive.
