MEELAL celebrates Manipuri Language Day

Dr Naorem Sanatomba, Associate Professor of Manipuri Department at Manipur University has made an appeal to transliterate the books in Bengali script available at the University and its library to Meetei Mayek.
He made the appeal at the observation of 34th Manipuri Language Day held today at Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) Head Office in Imphal.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Naorem Sanatomba said that students continue to face challenges due to the lack of books written in the Meetei Mayek script in the MU library.
To address this issue, he urged the Government to handover the books in Bengali script to MEELAL to start the process of transliterating them to Meetei Mayek.
Meanwhile, MEELAL president Khaidem Ingocha asserted that as a result of the organisation's hard work, many students have successfully studied MA (Manipuri) in the Meetei Mayek script and some have reached the PhD level.
Saying that the observance ceremony was held to commemorate the inclusion of Meeteilon in the 8th Schedule to the Constitution of India, he assured that MEELAL will continue to work relentlessly for the uplifiment of Meeteilon and Meetei Mayek.
