"World Hypertension Day" observed at YK College

World Hypertension Day, 2025 was observed at YK College Wangjing on Saturday organised by the NCD Cell, District Health Society, Thoubal under the theme, 'measure your blood pressure accurately, control it, live longer'.
The event was attended by Chief Medical Officer, Thoubal Dr Y Nokul Singh, Principal YK College, Wangjing Prof Kh Jugindro Singh and MO in Charge of PHC Khongjom as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
At the event, DNO, NPNCD Dr M Bikramjit Singh highlighted the importance of observing World Hypertension Day.
He also highlighted the programmes and activities to be conducted in the month long observance in the District.
Dr Y Nokul said that Hypertension is a silent killer and is largely related to food habits.
He said that excessive consumption of spicy foods, salt and others leads to an increase in blood pressure.
He also advised persons who have attained 30 years of age to go for regular health/BP check ups once in a year for early detection and to prevent further complications.
He also urged the people to maintain a healthy lifestyle by quitting all forms of intoxicating drugs.
Later, an open Quiz Competition was also held in connection with the observance, in which Takhellambam Maleshwori Chanu, BSc (VI Sem) bagging the first position, while Hijam Dayananda Singh, BSc (VI Sem) and Lingjelthoibi Naorem, BSc (VI Sem) bagged the 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
The winners of the competition were later honoured and felicitated with cash prizes.
Later, a walkathon was also held from YK College Wangjing to nearby Bazar areas spreading awareness on Hypertension to the general public.
Around 200 students and teachers and Health staff attended the function.
