Imphal, January 18 2026: The 7th Khundongbam Brojendro Theatre Festival was inaugurated today at the Jawaharlal Nehru Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal, organised by the Khundongbam Brojendro Cultural Trust.

The inaugural function was graced by H Gyanprakash, Commissioner (Art & Culture), Government of Manipur, and Dr RK Nimai, retired IAS officer as the chief guest & president respectively.

At the event, the dignitaries praised the trust's efforts in promoting theatre and preserving cultural heritage.

They asserted that Khundongbam Brojendro's work has left an indelible mark on Manipuri theatre and initiatives like this festival are crucial in keeping his legacy alive and inspiring emerging artists.

A pioneer in Manipuri theatre, Brojendro dedicated his life to advancing performing arts in the State.

He revived traditional plays, mentored young actors, and integrated classical Manipuri art forms into contemporary theatre, enriching Manipur's cultural fabric and connecting younger generations to their heritage.

The festival brings together theatre troupes, artists, and cultural enthusiasts from across Manipur, featuring performances, workshops, and interactive sessions.

The 4-day festival will showcase various plays and events, highlighting Manipuri theatre's richness and diversity.

The first day of the festival was marked by the release of a souvenir and presentation of the play "Chamarak Hanna Pokning Ee" by Paradise Theatre Wangkhei.

The second day will feature the play "The Case is Dismissed" by Aryan Theatre Imphal.
