'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' tree plantation drive conducted

In a significant initiative combining environmental sustainability with emotional and educational values, Zonal Education Officer, Zone-1, Imphal West District organised a 1-day tree plantation drive on the theme, "Miyawaki Mirco Forest Setup" at Pishum Chingamacha, Imphal today.
The tree plantation drive was held as part of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 (Plant for Mother) initiative, which encourages individuals to plant a tree in honour of their mothers, aims to promote environmental consciousness through personal and symbolic action.
The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, members of CYLC Club and local residents, creating a vibrant atmosphere of community engagement.
More than 250 saplings were planted during the plantation drive.
At the event, Yumnam Hemchandra, ZEO, Zone-1, Imphal West and Mini Sinam, Coordinator, D-I of School, Eco Club Zone-1 said that the plantation drive was carried out using the Miyawaki method, which promotes dense, native forest growth in small areas, often in urban settings.
They shared that the Miyawaki method, developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki in the 1970s, involves planting a variety of native trees and shrubs close together to accelerate their growth and mimic a natural forest ecosystem.
It is known for its ability to create self-sustaining forests in a short amount of time and its adaptability to urban environments, they added.
Singjamei Chingamakha Model High School's Head Mistress Thokchom Renu and CYLC Club secretary Huidrom Sanatomba were also present at the event.
