Kakching, May 15 2025: Manipur Health Services director Dr Chambo Gonmei led a team from the Directorate to inspect the Chandel District Hospital as part of efforts to initiate its upgrade into a Super Specialty and Specialty Health Care Service Provider, on Wednesday.

The joint inspection team led by the director also comprised joint director (Planning) Dr Y Premchandra Singh, deputy director (Planning) Dr U Jugindro Singh, National Health Mission state nodal officer (Blood Cell) Dr L Dayalaxmi, MO-Planning Dr Md Rafique and Health and Family Welfare Engineering Cell executive engineer (V-II) Y Dilip Singh.

The team discussed the progress, challenges and requirements of the district hospital with the team of the hospital including Chandel CMO Dr Joyson Matthew Monsang, district hospital medical superintendent Dr Serbum Shakchung Moyon and other officers, nurses and staff along with officials of District Health Society, Chandel.

During the discussion, District Health Society programme manager Jasha Premi presented a power point presentation highlighting the status of healthcare centres, infrastructure, human resources and other key aspects at both district and block levels under the District Health Society.

In connection with the inspection, director Dr Chambo Gonmei acknowledged that health facilities in the hill districts and remote plain areas remain inadequate.

In response, the government is working to develop new infrastructure at appropriate locations to address these gaps.

He also pointed out that as blood banks currently exist only at RIMS, JNIMS and Churachandpur DH, multiple proposals have been submitted to the relevant ministry since 2018 to establish blood banks in other parts of the state.

Dr Gonmei further appealed to district CMOs to support efforts in increasing the number of sub-centres and undertake necessary repair and fencing works.

He said that doctors, nurses, technicians and other healthcare personnel, who form the backbone of the health system, should avoid lobbying for preferred postings and instead serve where they are most needed.
