A book titled "Integrating Skills in Higher Education: Problems & Prospects" authored by Professor Md Raheijuddin Sheikh (Shamu), Principal of Moirang College, was officially released today at the college's conference hall.
As per a press release, the event was organized by the Moirang College Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) .
Published by Rubby Press Co, New Delhi, the book provides an in-depth exploration of the challenges and opportunities involved in embedding skill-based education within the higher education framework.
Professor Sheikh is an eminent writer and recipient of the Akashvani Award (Drama) 2000 and the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad's Literary Award & Sahitya Sevak 2025 .
The book chronicles the author's tenure as Nodal Officer for the establishment of the DM Community College at DM College of Science (2014-2016) and his subsequent role as Director of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Centre for KAUSHAL at the same institution (2017-2020).It also reflects on his experiences as Principal of Manipur College (2014-2016), Kakching Khunou College, and Lilong Haoreibi College, a role he held until September 2020.In his address, Professor Sheikh described the establishment of the Community College and KAUSHAL Kendra as a challenging yet profoundly rewarding endeavour.
Professor Sheikh stated that the book captures the struggles and successes of bringing skill-based education to the state, a process closely aligned with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 .
The book is designed to help students understand how skill-based vocational education can be effectively integrated into the mainstream higher education system.
The release function was graced by Professor Longjam Rajen, Principal of GP Women's College, DM University, as the chief guest.
The president of the function was Professor N Nimai Singh, Director of the Research Institute of Science & Technology while Dr W Robindro Singh, OSD at the Directorate of University & Higher Education, attended as the guest of honour.
A critical review of the book was presented by Professor Moirangthem Priyobarta Singh, Retired Principal of Imphal College and an eminent writer and critic.
