AMMIK remembers freedom fighters

On the occasion of Patriots' Day, the Apunba Manipuri Matam Ishei Kanglup (AMMIK), Imphal East District Centre conducted the 1st State Level Open Patriotic Song Competition, 2025 at Khurai Kala Bidya Bhavan sponsored by National Peoples' Party (NPP), Khurai Block.
23 singers selected for the final round competed in today's event.
The gathering paid their respects to the brave forefathers of Manipur including Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General with the offering of floral tributes.
Kicking off the patriotic song competition, Laitonjam Jayananda, general secretary, IT and Frontal Organisation, NPP Manipur State Unit, said though people innately have a sense of patriotism and nationalism, they are misguided by leaders.
If people are led and guided properly, no one can tamper with the idea of Manipur, he maintained.
Lauding the valour of the brave forefathers who gave the supreme sacrifice for Manipur, he said that contemporary generations will never forget their courage in waging war against the British.
It is high time for Meitei's bravery and warrior instincts to be steered in the direction of peace, said L Jayananda.
Other dignitaries present at the event include Dr Thongam Ganerjit Singh, president, AMMIK Imphal East District Centre; RK Narjit, president, Khurai Kala Bidya Bhavan; Ngangom Maniroton, president, NPP Khurai Block; Salam Muktarei Leima, State awardee in performing arts and Md Altaf Hussain, president, AMMACO .
