Man remanded for sexual assault

Imphal, May 12 2025: A 28 year old man has been remanded in judicial custody for allegedly committing sexual assault on a minor girl on May 8 morning.

Accused Chawangbou Thiumai alias Prinmai (28) s/o (L) Wikhanlungbau of Kanglatongbi Namdilong was produced before the Court of Special Judge POCSO Imphal West after completion of police custody period along with a prayer for judicial custody remand by a team of Women Police Station, Imphal West.

A Public Prosecutor submitted that the father of the minor victim lodged a complaint on May 8 morning stating that he and his wife were on their daily works in their hotel when they heard a cry from their elder daughter from nearby the colony on the same morning at around 7.30 .

When her wife immediately rushed outside in search of their minor daughter, she saw the accused sexually assaulting the minor.

The complainant further mentioned that the victim minor and the accused were half naked when his wife saw them.

The complainant's wife came running and narrated what she saw to him.

As he ran outside, the accused fled from the spot He immediately chased and the accused was caught from Kanglatongbi Bazar, NH-2 and later handed over to Sekmai police station.

In further investigation, the accused was handed over to Imphal West Women Police Station.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted to have committed the charges levelled against him.

On thorough interrogation, the accused stated that he knew the victim and went to the area where the minor victim was playing, forced himself upon her and committed sexual assault, the PP submitted.

The Court, after hearing the submission, remanded the accused in judicial custody till May 26 .
