Imphal, February 06 2026:
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has urged the Government of India to establish Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in the State which focus on electronics, electricals, and garment industries.
Raising the demand during the Zero Hour of today's Parliament session, the MP highlighted that Manipur is a small State with a population of around 30 lakh people.
He pointed out that there is not a single large industrial corporate house in the State, aside from a few small enterprises.
Saying that the literacy rate of Manipur stands at 76.94 per cent according to the 2011 Census, he added that the State's unemployment rate, however, is 4.7 percent, which is higher than the National average of 3.2 percent.
Many educated youths in Manipur remain unemployed, Sanajaoba said.
Stating that establishing various PSUs in Manipur could help address the unemployment issue to some extent, the MP urged the Government to set up electronics, electricals, and garment PSUs in the State.
He said that establishing the PSUs will also boost the State's economy and help prevent youths from falling into drug addiction.
