Bomb attacks condemned

Imphal, May 05 2026: Unknown assailants lobbed a bomb and fired a shot at the residence of Dr Salam Arbind at Langjing Achouba Maning Leikai yesterday.

The incident occurred at around 8 pm yesterday.

The bomb was hurled towards the gate of the residential house though it didn't explode, said locals.

Police picked up the bomb yesterday after it was informed.

Dr Salam Arbind runs a private dental clinic at Sagolband Salam Leikai.

A sit-in protest, organised by local clubs and Meira Paibi Lups, condemned the "attack" in the strongest terms.

During the protest demonstration, Meira Paibi leaders asked the individuals or groups concerned to claim responsibility and state their reason for the attack.

Dr Arbind's house is adjacent to a boarding facility housing students.

The attack could have hurt locals, students of the boarding and the doctor's family, said the Meira Paibi leaders, condemning the attack.

The womenfolk asked the group or individuals involved not to repeat such incidents in the future.

In another similar incident, a bomb explosion at around 10.10 pm yesterday damaged the residential gate of Khumbongmayum Rupachandra at Iroishemba Mamang Leikai, under Lamphel police station, Imphal West.

The attack was suspectedly carried out by unidentified persons believed to be members of an underground outfit, said sources.

Soon after the explosion, Lamphel police rushed to the spot, and later registered a case.

Khumbongmayum Rupachandra is the father of Khumbongmayum Suresh who contested in the Manipur State Assembly elections in the year 2022 on a Janata Dal United ticket from Uripok Assembly Constituency.

Locals of Iroishemba including womenfolk staged a sit in protest this afternoon, vehemently condemning the blast in the residential area.

While such attacks put civilian lives at risk, it has created panic and fear psychosis among the locals, the protesters said, appealing to groups concerned not to refrain from carrying out such attacks in the future.
