NFR GM calls on Governor

Imphal, September 02 2026: General Manager of North East Frontier Railway (NFR) Chetan Kumar Shrivastava met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Lok Bhavan on September 1 and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand at the CM Secretariat and held discussions on railway connectivity and infrastructure development in Manipur.

The feasibility of establishing direct rail connectivity between Manipur and Guwahati was also discussed, said a statement issued by NFR .

Such a service, if introduced, would improve connectivity between Manipur and Assam's major urban and commercial centre.

During the meeting with the Governor, issues related to strengthening rail connectivity, improving passenger convenience and freight movement, enhancing security infrastructure and improving railway services in the State were discussed, said a statement issued by NFR .

The meeting with the Chief Minister, which was attended by senior officials of the State Government and NFR, focused on railway connectivity, infrastructure and passenger services, it added.

The meeting discussed measures to ensure the smooth and regular operation of passenger train services between Jiribam and Khongsang, with an emphasis on providing reliable and convenient services to passengers.

The meeting also reviewed the need to improve road connectivity between Vangaichungpao and the National Highway and strengthen security infrastructure to facilitate safer and more efficient railway operations.

Issues concerning the handling and management of freight traffic at Khongsang Terminal were also discussed.

The introduction and operationalisation of Roll-on/Roll-off (RO-RO) services at the terminal was deliberated upon to facilitate the movement of goods and vehicles through rail-based transportation.

The progress of the Jiribam-Imphal New Railway Line Project was also reviewed, with emphasis on expediting the ongoing works and ensuring steady progress towards completion of the strategically important project.

The discussions reaffirmed NFR's commitment to strengthening railway infrastructure, improving passenger and freight services and enhancing security, with a view to supporting the socio-economic development of Manipur through improved rail connectivity, it added.
