Moirang, August 31 2025: Malemleima Village Level Federation, comprising 10 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou under Thinungei GP, Bishnupur block celebrated its first foundation day with a general body meeting at Kha Khunou Ward No 4 Community Hall.

The event was attended by Bishnupur AC MLA, Govindas Konthoujam; Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur & District Mission Director, Bishnupur MSRLM, Pooja Elangbam; DMM MSRLM Bishnupur (RD&PR), Govt of Manipur, Angom Amarjit; Ward members of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, Sagapam Tondon; Nongmaithem Ranbir Singh; Mangaleima VLF president Thokchom Lata Devi, along with officials of MSRLM Bishnupur as presidium members.

Highlights of the celebration included the handing over of a cheque of Rs 15 lakh as Community Investment Fund to the 10 SHGs; presentation of the resolution of GB meeting, action plan and financial report; cultural programmes; Bank Shakhi report sharing; testimonies from SHG members, and honouring of the best performing SHG of the federation.

Addressing the gathering, Bishnupur AC MLA Govindas Konthoujam lauded the contribution of women in Manipuri society, noting their role in social, economic and political spheres.

He emphasised that the Indian Government has been working to uplift and develop rural areas through initiatives like the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NHRLM), with a special focus on women empowerment.

He further noted that Manipur too has adopted the Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission (MSRLM), under which many SHGs have emerged as powerful tools for women's progress.

However, political differences often delay the inclusion of more women in such groups.

It is important that every women gets the opportunity to join SHGs so as to promote mutual support and economic empowerment," added Govindas.
