Asnikumar talks peace, development with Gadkari

Former Chairman of Loktak Development Authority (LDA) and BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesman M Asnikumar today called on Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari at his official residence in New Delhi to discuss the prevailing situation in Manipur and the critical need to accelerate peace and development across the State.
The meeting involved in-depth discussions on sustainable economic growth through tourism-driven employment generation and the urgent improvement of road and transport infrastructure, particularly in underserved regions of Manipur.
Asnikumar underscored the importance of adopting a holistic approach that aligns infrastructure development with regional integration and long-term sustainability.
During the meeting, Asnikumar submitted a formal proposal addressing long-standing connectivity challenges in Thanga Assembly Constituency, covering areas such as Arong Tera, Laphupat, Komlakhong, and neighbouring regions in Bishnupur, Imphal West, Kakching, and Thoubal districts.
These regions have long suffered due to difficult terrain and decades of infrastructural neglect.
He proposed expansion and upgradation of the Moirang-Thanga Road; construction of a new bridge over Loktak Lake, connecting Mukap, Mandha, and Chingthi; and integration of the entire 37-kilometre stretch into National Highway-2.He also proposed increasing tourist footfall; strengthening the local hospitality and service sectors and enabling sustainable livelihood opportunities for youth and rural communities.
After a patient hearing, Nitin Gadkari appreciated the significance of the proposal and instructed officials of his Ministry to expedite the review and processing of the project under the External Assistance Programme (EAP).
He assured Asnikumar that his Ministry would extend all necessary support for the implementation of this vital infrastructure initiative in Manipur.
Asnikumar claimed that the proposed road and bridge project will be a game-changer for the people of Thanga and neighbouring areas, unlocking the full potential of tourism, improving accessibility and creating lasting economic opportunities.
