Imphal, July 28 2026:
The Manipur Cultural and Research Organisation (MCRO) has condemned restrictions imposed on devotees entering Kangla for early morning worship, calling it a violation of religious freedom and the Constitution.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club, MCRO executive director Dr Seram Rojesh said the incident occurred on July 22 around 6 am .
He alleged that security personnel stationed at Kangla Western Gate barred entry for worship.
Dr Rojesh said while some pilgrims from outside the State were allowed entry on foot without restriction, devotees coming to offer prayers were told to come only after 9 am.
Restricting early morning worship is an attack on secularism and fundamental rights, he asserted.
MCRO questioned whether this was an attempt to obstruct Meitei religious practices at sacred sites like Koubru and Thangjing since 2023 .
The organisation said it will submit a memorandum to the concerned authorities and, if ignored, stage protests at Kangla Gate and pursue legal action.
