Dimapur, April 28: With the Nagaland Government virtually failing to contain the upsurge of factional violence in the State, especially Dimapur and Kohima districts in Nagaland, several villages in Dimapur have sent across a strong message to the factions that they would not tolerate any such acts of violence in their areas.

Three villages of Diphupar area in Dimapur, which have been largely hit by the factional clashes, have resolved not to tolerate or extend cooperation to any faction that was camped in and around the three villages.

A decision towards this effect was taken during a joint meeting of the three villages on Saturday.

The villages in question appealed to all underground factions to respect the sentiments of the public and restrain from resorting to gunfight in populated areas.

The joint meeting, convened to discuss the unrest created due to factional violence in the area in the past few days, viewed with seriousness the fear psychosis among villagers as they were afraid to venture out of their homes with parents stopping their children from going to schools fearing eruption of violence.

Earlier, the District Level Ceasefire Monitoring Group (DLCMG), Kohima, had directed all armed underground cadres to vacate public-inhabited areas in the district with immediate effect.

The DLCMG warned that a joint operation would be carried out to flush out the cadres if they failed to adhere to the directive.

The DLCMG issued the warning following a meeting between the district administration, Kohima, and several NGOs.

The meeting opined that the civil societies and NGOs should also persuade the public not to allow armed underground cadres to stay in their houses.

In this regard, the district administration sought full support and co-operation from the public as well as NGOs.

Earlier, the Dimapur district administration along with NGOs had constituted the "Dimapur District Co-ordination Group".

The Group was formed with an aim to look after peace and security in the district.

It may be mentioned altogether seven underground cadres � four from NSCN-Unification and three from NSCN (I-M) � were killed while a number of others, all cadres belonging to different groups, abducted in separate incidents in the town.

An IRB jawan was also shot dead by the NSCN (I-M) reportedly on mistaken identity.

Though the district administration has beefed up security, yet there was no let up in factional violence.

On Thursday, the residents of Diphupar 'B' and Ikishe village averted a factional clash by chasing away members of the rival NSCN factions.

On learning about a stand off between members of NSCN (I-M) and NSCN (Unification), more than 1,000 public, mostly women and youth, chased away the activists from the area.
