Academic awareness programme on 'Impact of drugs on student community' held

Imphal, July 25 2026:
The Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) organised an Academic Awareness Programme today at the Merit Scholar English School, Imphal East District.
The programme, conducted as part of CADA's ongoing anti-drug campaign, aimed to discuss the severe impact of intoxicants on society, particularly within the student community.
As per a release issued by CADA, the programme was held under the theme, "Mayai Kaba Nishana Maheiroi Khunaida Piba Cheitheng" (Impact of drugs on the student community) .
Presidium members included Heikrujam Susila, founder of Merit Scholar English School; Hijam Priyokumar.
president of CADA; and Puyam Sorojini, secretary finance, CADA Imphal East District Committee.
Takhellambam Geetchandra Meitei, secretary general of CADA, attended as resource person.
Addressing students through a slide show, Geetchandra highlighted the harmful effects of drug abuse and said drug use is spreading rapidly in Manipur, especially among youth.
He urged clubs and Meira Paibis to prevent sale and use of drugs in localities, and stressed that students have a key role in making Manipur drug-free.
He added that drug abuse leads to various diseases and must be rejected.
Hijam Priyokumar called on students to help make every household drug-free and appealed to teachers and parents to support awareness efforts.
