Bishnupur/Senapati, July 25 2025:
In view of the pen-down strike launched by aggrieved lecturers, Nambol Higher Secondary School students staged a protest demonstration pressing for restoration of regular academic activities/classes.
According to an unnamed protesting student, in recent times, 11 lecturers have joined the school, on regular basis, teaching different subjects.
Since the launch of the pen-down strike from July 21, 5/6 daily classes have been reduced to merely 1 or 2 classes a day.
As a result, there is apprehension that the syllabus will not be completed on time.
Despite calls to improve Government schools, the Government's failure to meet the basic needs and demands of the teachers is proving to be very harmful for the students of Government higher secondary schools, he said.
Urging the Government to meet the teacher's demands and allow normal classes to resume promptly, he cautioned that the students are prepared to launch a class boycott movement and other forms of agitation otherwise.
Later, the students shouted many slogans including "Save students' academic career", "Release pending salary and restore normal classes" etc.
Separately, members of the Lecturers Association, Manipur (LAM) belonging to Kangpokpi and Senapati district have demanded regularisation of their services while rejecting the contractual salary as proposed by the State Government.
The association declared their demand during a press conference held at Senapati on Friday.
Addressing media during the conference, one of the lecturers stated that the regularised lecturers of 2018 batch came together at Senapati district headquarters, marking the fifth day of their pen down strike under the banner of Lecturers Association, Manipur (LAM) .
Though their service was regularized on January 8, 2022, and they were entitled to regular salary from April 1, 2023, they have not received regular pay till date.
The lecturers urged the Government to complete their regularisation process and give regular salary as per their order.
Else, they have warned to intensify their agitation under the
aegis of LAM .
