Jiribam killings: Public outcry continues

Public outrage over the heinous killing of six women and children continues unabated as people in various districts staged sit-in protests and torch rallies in protest.
Marking the third day of protest demonstrations initiated by Nongpok Sayang Apunba Lup (NSAL), a sit-in protest was organised today in front of Yairipok Tampha Keithel, blocking the road.
The protestors held placards with messages such as "We demand resignation of all MLAs/Ministers", "Eliminate Kuki-Zo narco terrorists from Manipur" and "Restore Manipur to its pre-merger status" among others.

The sit-in protest was also accompanied by a discussion session on the prevailing crisis.
Speaking in this connection, Ananda Laishram, president, NSAL, strongly condemned the silence of both the Central and State Government even as their protest against the brutal killings has entered the third day.
Claiming that many State legislators expressed stem condemnations concerning the "nude parade" incident, he questioned the reason behind the alleged silence of MLAs/Ministers in the BJP led Government over the tragic Jiribam killings.
He suggested that the MLAs and Ministers should resign and the Chief Minister should handover the Chief Minister's office to NSAL if they are incapable of administering the State.
Meanwhile, VEDSCO and Khangabok Apunba Meira Paibi Lup organised condolence and protest demonstrations in Khangabok region yesterday night.
The protestors armed with candles and torches formed human chains and shouted various slogans condemning the incident and expressed heartfelt condolences.
Protestors from different parts of Khangabok gathered and formed a human chain at Khangabok Lamlong Keithel and shouted many slogans including "We condemn the killing of innocent civilians", "We condemn the inaction of Indian Government", "Legislators incapable of safeguarding people's lives and properties should resign" among others.
Similar protests were also staged by meira paibis at Khangabok Mayai Leikai, Khullakpam Leikai, Khangabok Part 1 School Leikai, Khangabok Palli Leikai, Khangabok Awang Leikai and Sorok Wangma Leikai.
Additionally, the public of Salungpham in Thoubal district stepped out of their homes to stage a torch rally yesterday night.
The rally jointly organised by the United Club Salungpham and Salungpham Apunba Meira Paibi was flagged off from Salungpham Mathak Leikai Ching Tam High School Ground.
After passing through various areas of Salungpham, the rally culminated at the starting point where the protestors observed a 2-minute silence to mourn the departed souls.
The rally goers shouted slogans echoing their condemnation of the tragic killings and demanding the resignation of State legislators.
