Indigenous mosquito trap launched

Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba launched an indigenous smart mosquito trap 'Zanzara', designed by Thokchom Khoiba and manufactured by Max House based in Babupara today.
This chemical-free and smokeless device uses ultraviolet light to trap mosquitoes.
Addressing the launch function held at Palace Compound, Khoiba shared that his research on Malaria and Dengue was prompted by the high number of mosquito-borne disease cases reported in Manipur, leading to the development of the smart mosquito trap.
He explained that Zanzara is an eco-friendly device that utilizes ultraviolet light, which attracts mosquitoes, to effectively trap and eliminate them.
He further said that the Zanzara which features a copper body frame is energy-efficient with low electricity consumption, operates silently, and is non-toxic.
The manufacturing cost of the Zanzara mosquito trap is Rs 13,000, he said and added that he however, plans to offer it to the first 100 customers at a significantly reduced price of Rs 5,000 .
Leishemba Sanajaoba expressed immense pride that a fellow Manipuri had developed an eco-friendly mosquito trap, showcasing local innovation.
He appealed to the public to protect themselves from mosquito-borne diseases, noting that Manipur had seen alarmingly high cases of Dengue in recent years.
He also urged the public to support local innovation by using Zanzara instead of relying on externally sourced mosquito coils and repellents, promoting a home-grown solution to combat mosquito-borne diseases.
Vice Chancellor of Manipur University of Culture Professor Paonam Gunindro, nominee to the Rajya Sabha MP Thokchom Saratchandra and first runner up of Mister Top Model of Universe Martin Irengbam also attended the programme.
