Imphal, March 15 2026:
As in other parts of the world, Consumers' Club Manipur (CCM) observed World Consumer Rights Day at the conference hall of Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) at Yaralpat, Top Makha Leikai, today.
Addressing the gathering, CCM president T Phulchand Sharma emphasised the importance of consumers to be cautious when making purchases, aligning with this year's theme, "Save Products, Confident Consumers".
He urged everyone to carefully assess the quality, safety, manufacturing date, and expiry date of products before making a purchase.
Saying that the digital market has gained popularity due to technological advancements, he urged everyone to exercise extra caution before placing orders for any goods.
People often purchase goods after seeing advertisements or attractive discounts, but it is also common for products to fall short of the claims made in the ads, he said, reiterating his advice for consumers to thoroughly research products, particularly from digital markets, to avoid wasting money.
Speaking as the resource person, Ch Narendra, former president of the Consumers Dispute Redressal Forum Imphal, emphasised that consumers have the right to negotiate prices and explore different products before making a purchase.
He also highlighted that consumers are entitled to complete information about the goods they intend to buy.
There are also consumer Courts where individuals can lodge complaints if needed, Narendra said.
The observance was also attended by Additional Director cum Registrar of SIMS SK Wajid and representatives of Imphal East Food Safety department among others.
