Imphal, August 13 2025:
Several women organisations including Apunba Manipur Kanba Ema Lup (AMKIL), Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) and All Manipur Chingmi Tammi Apunba Nupi Lup paid homage to all the patriots by taking out a torch rally this evening from Wahengbam Leikai to different memorial sites and places where statues/busts of the patriots are installed.
Participants of the rally first stopped at Sahid Minar, Pologround and offered floral tributes to the patriots.
The next stop was Hicham Yaicham Pat, Yaiskul where they again paid homage to the patriots.
After reaching Konung Mamang, they offered floral tributes to the statue of Thangal General.
Nupi Samaj president Th Ramani questioned the political and socio-economic condition of Manipur after its merger with the Indian Union.
She also underscored the urgency of unification of all the communities and working together in the collective interest of Manipur.
Instead of portraying themselves as nationalists by offering floral tributes to the patriots, political leaders must understand the situation of Manipur and the plight of people, and work accordingly, Ramani said.
AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi said that the younger generations need to learn from history and imbibe the same spirit of freedom and patriotism as shown by the Manipuri forefathers.
"It's time to show to all the inimical forces conspiring to fragment Manipur that lived as a sovereign Nation for thousands of years and we used to live as a free people", she said.
