The MaolKeki Foundation has annoucned that the MaolKeki Memorial Johnstone Higher Secondary School Scholarship for the year 2024 will be awarded toLairikyengbam Akash Roy.
According to a release issued by MaolKeki Foundation, this year, one scholarship of Rs 15,000 is being awarded to a student from any of the Arts, Commerce and Science streams to cover academic fees and expenses.
There were multiple applications and based on academic performance, a justification brief and a round of interview, Lairikyengbam Akash Roy was declared as the recipient of this year's Scholarship.
It is worth noting Lairikyengbam Akash Roy is the first one to qualify for the Scholarship since its inception and gave the interview despite the challenging circumstance of his home being inundated in the recent floods.
The Foundation also asserted that they were impressed by two other candidates, namely Josh Phijam and Khwairakpam Rahul Singh.
They will each receive a prize that will help them further pursue their academic goals.
Notably, the MaolKeki Memorial Johnstone Higher Secondary School Scholarships were instituted by (L) Dr Tonsana Gurumayum and his family in April 2021 .
(L) Dr Tonsana was an alumnus of Johnstone Higher Secondary School and retired as the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, Government of Manipur.
As an alumnus, this was his way of giving back to his school established in 1885 by Sir James Johnstone- to support academically bright students achieve their dreams.
