Thoubal, January 12 2026:
In a landmark judgment, the Maintenance Tribunal, Thoubal has ordered legally obligated children of a senior citizen to provide Rs 10,000 per month as financial assistance.
The case was filed by a senior citizen from Thoubal Athokpam.
The Tribunal was presided by Arvind Hanglem, IAS, SDO, Thoubal.
After the hearing concluded, Arvind Hanglem said this is the first case in Manipur taken up under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 .
According to the MWPSC Act, every senior citizen has the right to get financial security from their adult children or heirs in the form of monthly maintenance.
The SDO, Thoubal also appealed to the public to be aware of the MWPSC Act and get the benefits of the law in cases where senior citizens are deprived of financial support
from their children/heirs.
