Imphal, September 11 2025:
The Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), Central Headquarters is "expected" to file a case before the High Court of Manipur against the appointment of two members of the Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribes (MSCST) without issuing a public notice in the coming week.
The appointment was made on December 26, 2024.According to a press release issued by TYCM, this development comes on the heels of the High Legal Services Committee, Manipur approving TYCM's Central Executive Council's (CEC) request for legal aid on September 10.The Committee has appointed Murtaza Ahmed, Advocate, High Court of Manipur, to represent the case.
Subsequently, TYCM has completed all necessary preparations and is expected to file the case in the coming week.
According to the TYCM, the practice of nominating candidates without an open invitation raises suspicions of nominations being influenced by nepotism or favouritism, with the possibility of nominating relatives or family members or close associates of political figures or officers.
Such practices deny deserving individuals the opportunity to fairly compete for these positions and violate their right to participate in the process.
It also denies the tribal communities their rightful participation in shaping policies and decisions that directly affect them, it said.
Saying that this will ultimately harm the interests and development of the tribal communities, TYCM further stressed that the lack of transparency and fairness in' the nomination process undermines the very essence of MSCST.
TYCM, Central Headquarters has extended its appreciation to the High Legal Services Committee, Manipur, for granting legal aid in this matter.
