Sensitization programme on Sangai Day held

Imphal, May 10 2025:
A "One -Day School Students ' Sensitization Program on Sangai Day" was organized today at Phoubakchao High School, Phoubakchao, Imphal West from 10:30 am in the school hall.
The program was graced by L Joykumar, Chief Conservator of Forests, Wildlife; L Biramangol, Director, Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba; Dr Kh Shamungou, Managing Trustee, Sangai First Foundation; K Jugeshwor, Trustee, Sangai First Foundation and Md Samad, State Teacher Awardee and Headmaster of Phoubakchao High School as presidium members, according to a press release issued by Budha Khwairakpam, Media Coordinator, Sangai First Foundation.
A spot quiz competition was conducted with the participation of 95 students, and five winners were selected.
The winners will be formally awarded on Sangai Day, scheduled for December 10, 2025 .
In his keynote address, L Joykumar emphasized the critical importance of environmental conservation and the need to safeguard the Sangai deer and Hog Deer at Keibul Lamjao Floating National Park, describing them as the identity, heritage, and pride of Manipur.
He also donated several copies of Sangai literature to the school library.
L Biramangol announced that the winners of the Sangai Spot Quiz Competition would receive free entry to the Manipur Zoological Garden and also donated informative handouts and publications to the school library.
Dr Kh Shamungou delivered a talk on Sangai conservation and the protection of natural ecosystems, focusing on the sociocultural importance of Keibul Lamjao Floating National Park.
He contributed 16 copies of his authored books to the school library.
The program concluded with a pledge by all attendees to support the conservation of the Sangai deer, protect wildlife, and promote sustainable environmental practices.
