MitSna's Book Corner hosts session with Santa Khurai

MitSna's Book Comer, in association with Advanced Research Consortium Library & Archives (ARCLA), hosted a "Meet the Author" session with transgender activist Santa Khurai for her book, "The Yellow Sparrow" in hybrid mode at the library premises in Singjamei Wangma Bheigyapati Leikai, Imphal, on Sunday.
According to a release issued by MitSna Foundation, the session was moderated by Pooja Elangbam, Director of Tourism Department, Manipur.
Speaking at the event, Santa Khurai recollected several funny and sad incidents from her life.
She also spoke of how she became aware of the need for transgender rights and that despite some changes, the community still faces considerable challenges.
She continued that Manipuri society is complex and that the concept of gender needs further discussion.
Notably, Santa Khurai is an activist gender rights scholar, writer, artist, as well as secretary of All Manipur Nupi Maanbi Association (AMANA) .
As an activist and organiser, she collaborates with different national and international organisations such as the United Nations to promote and protect the rights of LGBTIQ+ sector.
Some of works her notable works include, "Pheida: Gender at the Periphery", "The Forbidden Prophecies", "The Dwindling Identity", "My Father" and "Nupi Maanbi Thabal".
Her book "The Yellow Sparrow" has been shortlisted for the Asia's largest Rainbow Award and the Ramnath Goenka Sahitya Samman Award 2024 .
Santa Khurai is also scheduled to speak at a similar book talk event organised by the Institute for South Asian Studies as part of the Berkley Events, hosted by University of California in Berkeley USA on March 15, 2025 .
