Drug peddler remanded to police custody

Imphal, February 06 2026: The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East has today remanded 29-year-old Md Abdullah to police custody, following his arrest along with three kilogram of Ice Drug (crystal methamphetamine) from Wangkhei Chingangbam Leirak.

Accused Md Abdullah, son of Md Abdul Karim of Sekmaijin Hangul, currently residing at Hatta was produced before the Court by a team of Porompat police with a request for a 6-day police remand.

The Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) for the State informed the Court that, at around 10.30 am yesterday, reliable information was provided by Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol Manipur (YADAM), corroborated by the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Imphal East, regarding individuals involved in selling narcotic drugs at Ayangpali area near Coffee Culture.

Acting on this information, the ANTF team rushed to the location and conducted frisking and checks of suspicious individuals.

During the operation, the accused, riding a TVS Jupiter scooter without a registration plate, was detained near the Coffee Culture area on Ayangpali Road for verification.

On inspection, a white bag was found concealed inside the scooter's toolbox.

In the presence of the Executive Magistrate, the bag was opened, revealing three plastic packets containing Ice Drug.

The police team seized the drug, the scooter, and a mobile phone from the accused.

The accused was also arrested and handed over to Porompat police station.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted to committing the crime.

The police stated that further investigation is crucial to identify his accomplices and understand the circumstances leading to the crime.

The police requested a 6-day police custody remand to facilitate a smooth investigation.

After hearing the submissions and reviewing the case records, the Court remanded the accused to police custody till February 11 and directed the Investigating Officer to produce the accused before the Special Court, ND&PS on that date.
