ICMR team inspects sites at Kakching and Senapati for construction of MRHRU

Kakching, July 04 2025:
A team from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), along with officials from the Directorate of Health Services, Manipur inspected two potential sites in Kakching and Senapati districts for the construction of a Model Rural Health Research Unit (MRHRU) .
The inspection is part of a Government of India initiative under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Department of Health Research (DHR) aimed at strengthening rural health infrastructure and promoting community-based medical research.
The visiting team was led by Dr Y Premchandra, Joint Director Planning & Finance (PFA) in Kakching, and included Dr Mohammad Rafique, OSD (PF) and Doctor Benedict Maring, SNO, AYUSH Directorate in Senapati.
Officials from ICMR also accompanied the team.
In Kakching, the team was joined by CMO Dr Thoudem Rajen and MO in-charge Dr Takhellambam Jhulon.
The team visited a site near Padma Ratna English School in Kakching Wairi to assess its feasibility for setting up the MRHRU.
Officials stressed that MRHRU will play a vital role in supporting local health research, especially in remote and underserved areas.
It is also expected to help translate medical research into public health practices and policies.
Later, the team held a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of Kakching, Rohit Anand and shared their observations and feedback on the proposed site.
