Noney, September 01 2025:
Families affected by the long-pending payment of compensation for land acquisition related to road expansion work of NH-37 took out a protest rally today at Rangpang, near the oil pump in Noney along the Imphal-Jiribam Road.
The protestors, comprising more than 68 affected families, voiced strong opposition to the Government's inaction regarding compensation for standing structures, trees, and crops on a 2.5 km stretch of land between Rangpang stream and Duidaipangngou stream, bordering Tupul.
The area, which was cleared for the double-lane expansion of NH-37, has reportedly been left abandoned without any compensation or follow-up action.
Demonstrators held placards with messages such as, "No land acquisition without survey", "No illegal and forcible land acquisition", "Acquire land legally and expedite compensation", "Conduct proper assessment of structures, trees, and crops", "Acquisition cannot be done on paper without notice to owners" and "Conduct fresh land acquisition as per the Act".
Speaking on the sidelines of the rally, one protestor expressed frustration, saying, "We are extremely unhappy that our area has been neglected and we have been victimised for a long time.
We demand the early release of compensation and the construction of a proper road to avoid further issues" .
The protestors warned that if the concerned authorities fail to act promptly, they will intensify their agitation in the coming days.
Chants of "Our land, our rights", "Pending compensation should be released soon!" echoed throughout the rally.
