Imphal, August 26 2011:
The Maring Uparup Assembly (MUA) has strongly condemned the alleged act of appending signature in support of the demand for Sadar Hills district by Sadar Hills ADC Member from Nongmaiching constituency ML Dominic Maring who is a Naga.
It was a great disappointment for the Maring Uparup Assembly and the Naga people that Dominic had easily ignored the Naga solidarity, land and history in the name of serving the society, remarked MUA in a press release.
No step should be taken up to disintegrate the Nagas' land without prior and proper consultation of the Nagas living in the adjoining areas in particular and the Naga community as a whole, it added.
Meanwhile, the MUA has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi demanding review of the HAC recommendation dated August 23, 2011 regarding recognition of a new tribe called Khoibu (Uipo) on or before September 10 failing which the Maring tribe may resort to any sort of agitation.
The issue of Khoibu should not be entertained hastily because it is a very sensitive issue.
It claimed that process has been already initiated to find an amicable and peaceful solution between the Khoibu Tribe Demand Committee and the Maring Uparup Assembly in January this year.
