Hailing the courage of Pebam Chittaranjan who made supreme sacrifice for the cause of removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur, many social organizations have paid fitting tributes to the departed youth during condolence meetings today.
32-year old Chittaranjan, a student activist of Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) took the extreme step of self immolation at Bishnupur Bazar in protest against Government's failure to withdraw the repressive Act completely from entire Manipur within the stipulated deadline of August 15.Son of Pebam Subol Mangang, Chittaranjan was a resident of Sega Road, Takhellambam Leikai but was staying with one of his uncles at Bishnupur Thiyam Leikai.
Youth's Welfare Club, Sagolband Thingom Leikai today organized a condolence meeting to pay homage to the sacrificial spirit of the deceased youth.
The members while observing two minutes silence as mark of respect to the departed soul also prayed to God for peaceful repose of the soul at its heavenly abode.
Staff and students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bishnupur have also condoled the death of Chittaranjan during the morning assembly session of the school yesterday.

Meanwhile, Social Activities Living Arts Institute (SALAI), Keishamthong Thangjam Leikai have condoled the death of MSF advisory secretary Pebam Chittaranjan of Sega Road, Takhellambam Leikai and K Memita Devi of Khundrakpam Kendra during a condolence meeting held at its office today.
It may be noted here, Memita succumbed to the tear gas and rubber bullets injuries she suffered during an agitation at Lamlai demanding complete withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.
Paying homage to the two departed souls, SALAI also announced its unwavering support to any course of action taken up by the 32 organizations spearheading the ongoing mass movement for removal of AFSPA and giving fitting punishment to those AR personnel responsible for killing of Thangjam Manorama and Pastor Jamkholet Khongsai.
Paying homage to the courage and sacrificial spirit of Chittaranjan, Meira Paibi Welfare Association, Kangleipak have also condoled his demise and shared in the grief of the bereaved family members.
Mourning the death of Chittaranjan, South East Voluntary Development Agency held the State Government squarely responsible for his death and urged the Government to work in the interest of its people.
Members of Moirangkampu Union Club, Khewa Bazar have also paid their respect to all those who have sacrificed their lives as well as those who suffered injuries during the course of the ongoing mass agitation.
All Manipur Rickshaw Driver's And Pullers Welfare Assn while expressing its deep condolence at the demise of Chittaranjan and K Memita, also shares the pain and grief of the bereaved family members.
Meanwhile, North Imphal United Clubs and Meira Paibis Organization and Yelhoungeigi Meitei Chingmi Tammi Apunba Lup Imphal have also condoled the untimely death of Chitaran jan and Memita.
