Imphal, May 12:
Along with recovering the reimbursement amount due to be given to the players but had been misused by the secretary of Manipur Swimming Association, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today distributed the amount to the players at its office here.
Addressing a press conference in connection with distribution of the reimbursement amount, secretary of games and sports of DESAM Kh Sanamatum informed that DESAM investigated into the complaint of not receiving the full amount of the reimbursement to be given to the players for participation in Third Master held at Kerala, 24th Junior and 61st Senior Master held at Goa and the 4th Master and 38 Master held at Mumbai.
The total amount of the reimbursement was around Rs 1,36,377 and after distribution among the players, a sum of Rs 23,877 was to go into the account of the Manipur Swimming Association.
However, the said amount was found to have been misused by the Association secretary L Biken.
With realisation that there should be no corruption in sports, Biken handed over the amount to DESAM, Sanamatum said, while appealing to the officer bearers of the Association not to indulge in such activities in future that would brought down the moral of the players.
DESAM has also written to the higher officials of the Association to ensure that Biken is not given any major post of the Association in future, Sanamatum said, while informing that DESAM would henceforth start paying attention to the functioning of other sporting associations to root out corruption.
He further informed that DESAM would also start working towards ensuring that the benefits of the physical education is also made available to the college students.
