Along with requesting the Centre to send a team of officials from the Income Tax Department for verification and subsequent raid on those who are amassing wealth and constructing houses disproportionate to their known sources of income in Greater Imphal area, the State Government has also instructed its Police Department to conduct a police station-wise survey identification of the social organisations and NGOs having links with UG groups and working as their overground units.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, a reliable source said that after the recent visit of a high level official team led by Union Cabinet Secretary KM Chandrasekhar, the Centre had intimated the State Government to probe into cases of amassing wealth disproportionate to known sources of income in some specified areas of Greater Imphal where construction of buildings and amassing disproportionate wealth are being witnessed.
The Centre had also spelled out in no uncertain term that many people who have close links with UGs are amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income, the source disclosed.
Consequent to the Central instruction, the Chief Secretary has entrusted the DGP and Principal Secretary (Revenue) to verify the names of the persons who have been constructing buildings and houses, acquiring land and other properties over the last two years in Greater Imphal area, the source said, adding that the State Government has also written a letter to the Centre for sending a team from the Income Tax Department for conducting raids and other necessary investigations.
The State Government has also entrusted its Police Department to verify the names of persons who are amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income, the source further disclosed.
Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary has sent a written missive to the DGP for conducting a police stationwise survey of the social organisations and NGOs allegedly having links with UG groups and working as their overground units.
After identification of such organisations and NGOs, the State Government would be initiating necessary legal action and would be cancelling the passports of office bearers of such organisations/NGOs, said the source further.
