Major David Munlun laid to rest

Thousands of people in Shillong today bid tearful farewell to late Major David Manlun, who was killed in a gun battle with NSCN-K and ULFA (I) cadres in a village in Nagaland's Mon district late Tuesday night.
Since yesterday, hundreds of people thronged the residence of late Major David Manlun in Happy Valley to pay their last respect to the soldier who made supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Meghalaya Governor Banwarilal Purohit, top officials of Meghalaya Police including SP of East Khasi Hills district Davis NR Marak, local MLA Ardent M Basaimoit and the Principal of St Anthony College also visited the martyr's home to pay their last respect.
Major David was cremated at the Assam Regimental Centre cemetery with full military honours.

Meghalaya Governor Banwarilal Purohit said that Major David Munlun's death is loss not only for the family but also for the entire nation.
Condolence messages from the army were also read out.
The 32-year-old officer of the 164 Brigade of the Territorial Army, Naga Regiment though brought up in Shillong is originally from Manipur.
IGAR (South), Imphal has also mourned the death of Major David Manlun.
Late Major David Manlun, originally from Churachand pur, Manipur, was born on July 27, 1985.He was the son of Sub M Khamzalam (retd).
Major David Munlun was an athlete and a footballer.
In 2009, he joined the Officer Training Academy, Chennai.
In March, 2010, he was commissioned into the 1st Battalion of the Naga Regiment.
He joined the battalion at Naugam in Jammu and Kashmir and served there for next two years and took part in number of operations.
After a stint of peace station at Baklow in Himachal Pradesh, he was posted in Nagaland with 164 Inf Bn TA (NAGA) since 2014.Here also, he had been part of a number of successful operations and in recognition of his exemplary service, he was awarded with the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card on August 15, 2016, IGAR (S) said a statement.
Having almost completed his tenure in Nagaland, he had opted for deputation to National Security Guard for which the probation was to begin on June 23 .
