Oja Sanajaoba recalled on 75th birth anniversary

Imphal, December 30 2020: The National Research Council (NRC), Manipur observed the 75th birth anniversary of Professor Naorem Sanajaoba fondly called as 'Oja Sanajaoba' at the library hall of the council at Canchipur today.

The commemoration programme was attended by Nongmaithem Rajmuhon,Professor at Manipur University; N Pramod, Associate Professor, LMS Law College; Ph Nando Luwang, president of AMUCO; L Memchoubi, president of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur and Dr Naorem Jibit Meitei, president of NRC as presidium members.

The presidium members and other attendees paid floral tributes to the photo of the late Professor and a quarterly journal by the name 'Orient Vision' was also released during the programme.

The result of the essay competition jointly organised by Oja Sanajaoba Memorial Trust and NRC, Manipur on the theme 'Oja Naorem Sanajaoba and integrity of Manipur' was also announced and the winners were also felicitated during the programme.

Naorem Purnima Chanu from Naorem Leikai who is pursuing BA 3rd Semester at Manipur College; Soram Inaoba from Yairipok who is an MA student in 3rd Semester and Ashem Regina from Sega Road Takhel Leikai, an MA student in the 1st semester respectively earned the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the essay competition.

Speaking at the occasion, the general secretary of NRC Dr Hawaibam Herojit said that the programme was organised considering the importance of researching the academic, philosophical and other contributions made by Oja Sanajaoba during his lifetime.

The late Professor was born on December 30, 1945 at Singjamei Makha Naorem Leikai in a poverty stricken family.

Being born to a poor family, he (Sanajaoba) had faced challenging times trying to sustain and to pursue his academic career at the same time, he said.

While being a law student and a teacher, he (Sanajaoba) had shown interest and thoroughly explored 'Legal Philosophy', 'Legal Jurisprudence', 'Human Rights', 'International Law', 'International Humanitarian Law' etc, the secretary recalled.

Oja Sanajaoba worked for the State's integrity, to make Manipur self sufficient and reliable and made a determined effort towards bringing social reformation before his demise on December 19, 2009, added Dr Hawaibam Herojit.

To translate his aspirations and far sighted visions into action will be a fitting tribute to Oja Sanajaoba all could pay, he continued.
