Ningol Chakkouba celebrated with displaced families at Thoubal relief camps

The cherished Manipuri festival Ningol Chakkouba, celebrating the sacred bond between brothers and sisters, was observed with great warmth and enthusiasm among the internally displaced persons (IDPs) taking refuge at Kodompokpi Relief Camp and Lamjao Upper Primary School Relief Camp.
The celebration held at Wangjing Bazar Devi Mandop was jointly organised by the Wangjing Tentha Kendra Development Committee (WTKDC) and the Wangjing Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, under the initiative of Paonam Brojen, MLA of Wangjing Tentha Assembly Constituency.
The event was graced by Hannah Kamei, Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal, along with WTKDC Advisors Retd ARCS Kh Maniton Singh, L Brajeshor, Wangjing Apunba Meira Paibi Lup secretary L Santi Devi.
WTKDC general Secretary O Sunil Kumar, Wangjing Tentha Mandal secretaries Th Brajakishor, P Premkumar, and MLA's PRO S Jayadeba, among others.
Representatives of the displaced families also attended as part of the presidium.
The highlight of the occasion was the reunion of the displaced mothers and sisters from the Kodompokpi Sports Complex Relief Camp, who were received with warmth and affection by the brothers from the locality.
The brothers and sisters shared a joyous meal, cherishing the emotional occasion that symbolizes resilience, affection, and hope amid hardship.
Speaking at the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Hannah Kamei described Ningol Chakkouba as "a beautiful and significant festival that embodies the deep bond between brothers and sisters." She expressed solidarity with the displaced people affected by the conflict since May 2023, adding that the compassion and support shown by local brothers "must be remembered as a gesture of unity and humanity".
Meanwhile, the Mayeng Lamjao Gram Panchayat also organised a Ningol Chakkouba feast for displaced women residing at the Lamjao Upper Primary School Relief Camp.
The event, held at the Panchayat Ghar, was attended by former Pradhan of Mayeng Lamjao GP, Urikhinbam Narjit Luwang; former ward members Y Toyai; L Roshan; M Biken; Th Renu; M Ithoi; K Oken; Y Dhamen: Panchayat secretary of the GP, Khumallambam Lema; GRS Chirom Dhiren; ADEO Ch Milan; CSC Mayeng Lamjao.

During the celebration, the Ningols were honoured with gifts and shared a festive meal with community members, upholding the cherished tradition of Ningol Chakkouba and spreading a message of love, resilience, and togetherness even in the face of displacement.
