Imphal, August 29 2025:
The World Meitei Organisation has stated that the controversial report of People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) on Manipur crisis was published in collusion with Chin-Kuki groups to tarnish the image of Meiteis.
The WMO, in a press release issued by its media coordinator RK Leishomba, said that the report of PUCL titled "Independent People's Tribunal on the Ethnic Conflict in Manipur" is absurd and as such it must be withdrawn.
The Organisation also demanded that PUCL tender an apology to the Meitei community for its allegedly biased report.
Accusing the PUCL of shielding Chin-Kuki armed groups and unfairly portraying Meiteis as perpetrators through its biased report, the WMO added that as an organization claiming to work for the welfare of people, PUCL should have remained impartial.
PUCL aimed to create confusion among the public by highlighting a specific Manipur High Court order directing the State Government to consider recommending ST status to Meiteis as a primary cause for the conflict, it said and added that no Court has the authority to grant ST status to a community.
Saying that PUCL should have listened to the grievances of victims from both warring communities and reflected them in its report if it truly stands for truth, the Organisation added that the report which favours the Kukis won't be of any help in resolving the crisis.
PUCL's report reveals its true motive, which was never to resolve the crisis, but rather to serve a biased agenda, the WMO asserted.
Asking why the controversial report having over 600 pages overlooks numerous violent incidents, including the torching of Meitei family homes, desecration of Meitei sacred places like Kondong Lairembee, Kongba Maru, killing of Meitei civilians, disappearances of Meiteis, and rape of Meitei women perpetrated by Kuki miscreants, the WMO said that the report is inaccurate from the first page by claiming the violence began in Imphal on May 3, 2023.The WMO further said that the report deliberately shielded Kuki narco-terrorists and their associates, despite clear evidence of well-armed Kuki individuals participating in the May 3, 2023, rally in Churachandpur just to unfairly implicate Meitei groups as perpetrators.
On what grounds was the report published which even justifies poppy plantation?, it asked, accusing the PUCL of openly taking the side of the Kukis.
The WMO also said that it will also file a complaint against PUCL for its attempt to prolong the crisis by publishing a misleading report.
