MTU holds first convocation

Imphal, January 29 2026: The first convocation ceremony of Manipur Technical University (MTU) was held at City Convention Centre here today.

During the convocation ceremony presided over by Governor and MTU Chancellor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, degrees were conferred to 262 students who completed BTech courses between 2020 and 2025 and MBA courses between 2023 and 2025. The MBA graduates were not present at the ceremony and their degrees were conferred in absentia.

IIT Guwahati Director Prof Devendra Jalihal gave the convocation address while Commissioner (Higher & Technical Education) Ningthoujam Geoffrey, MTU VC Prof W Chandbabu and MTU Registrar Ramananda Nongmeikapam were seated on the dais as presidium members.

Addressing the convocation, the Governor congratulated the graduating students and said the convocation was a moment of pride and energy.

He highlighted the importance of resilience, discipline, and hard work, emphasising that there are no shortcuts to success at any stage of life.

VC Prof W Chandbabu said that MTU was established in 2016, and it has opened five undergraduate programmes and one post graduate programme.

In addition to PhD, M Tech, MSc and MA programmes, BTech and B Pharm courses would be opened from this academic session, Prof Chandbabu said.

He added that around 20 courses, excluding PhD programme, are offered at MTU .
