Guwahati police on Monday arrested chairman of the bannedoutfit of Manipur Peoples' United Liberation Front (PULF) from a hideoutin the city's Chasal area.
The arrest came following the arrest of three cadres of the outfit from a rented house at Dispur area,
police said adding that the PULF chairman Md.Kazi Umar Farooq was arrested after a raid at a house in Chasal on Monday.
Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Debojit Deuri said, "During the interrogation of the three PULF cadres on Sunday, our team raided a house in Chasal and could nab Farooq today.
He had been hiding in the city for a long time," he added.
Similarly, a team of Manipur police had also arrested six PULF cadres on Sunday from Mysore in Karnataka.
"The arrest of the PULF cadres from states like Assam, Karnataka and other places made it clear that the cadres of the outfit had been on the run from its own state�Manipur," Deuri said and added that interrogation is on to trace more clues regarding the outfit's base in the city.
"We have however, no confirmed information whether the outfit was conducting any recruitment in the state," Deuri said.
The PULF militants who were arrested on Sunday from the city were identified as Mohammad Zakria Khan , Mohammad Altaf and Firoze Khan, police added.
The trio had confessed during interrogation that they used to operate from a hotel in Dispur before taking the house on rent.
Police had also informed that these Spasmoproxyvon capsules were to be taken to Manipur to be sold on higher prices and added that the capsules were in high demand among the drug users in Manipur.
