Bishnupur, June 27 2025:
Heavy rainfall over the last few days have flooded two relief camps in Kumbi Assembly Constituency of Bishnupur district.
Both relief camps at Yaima Model Girls' High School and Kumbi Awang High School are sheltering folks displaced by the prolonged conflict.
At Yaima Model Girls High School, floodwaters have entered the living quarters of the IDPs and though the water level has receded a little, the potential risks of various diseases spreading among the inmates is still high.
The situation at Kumbi Awang High School is slightly better as their living quarters are not flooded.
However, the surrounding area of the relief camp, including empty fields, have been inundated.
Burdened by the hardships brought on by the flood on top of the difficulties of living in relief camps, IDPs at the two relief camps have sought the attention of relevant officials.
Saying that many children in the camps have fallen ill, they appealed to the authorities to either return them to their homes or shift them to another place which is not prone to frequent flooding.
Meanwhile, social activist Moirangthem Meghachandra from Kumbi inspected the two relief camps today and extended monetary aid to the IDPs.
He stated that Yaima Model Girls High School is located in a low-lying area and is vulnerable to floods.
In this regard, he stressed on the need to repair the nearby canal and urged the District Administration as well as top officials of the Government to visit the two relief camps and conduct a survey to work out a possible solution to resolve the grievances of the IDPs .
