Imphal, January 27 2026: Alleged expired biscuits were distributed to children and participants during the 77th Republic Day celebrations organised by the District Administration, Kangpokpi.

The incident which occurred at the official programme held at the district headquarters has triggered public outrage, with parents and civil society groups raising concerns over public safety and administrative negligence.

The Thadou Youth Association-Sadar Hills (TYA-SH) condemned the act as a gross administrative failure, stating that distributing expired food violates basic food safety norms and the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 .

Emphasising the seriousness of the matter as it involved children and a National event, the association has demanded an impartial enquiry, a public apology from the Deputy Commissioner and strict action against those responsible.
