Imphal, October 26 2025: A book titled "Aribam Syam Sharma The Luminary of Indian Cinema" was released and the legendary filmmaker winning the Golden Beaver Award 2025 was celebrated at Tanthapolis, Imphal today.

MP Dr Bimol Akoijam released the book written by Parthajit Baruah.

Notably, the Golden Beaver Award 2025 was received by Parthajit Baruah on behalf of Aribam Syam Sharma at the India Film Festival of Alberta (IFFA) in Canada recently.

At the ceremony at Tanthapolis today, Parthajit Baruah handed over the award to Aribam Syam Sharma.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bimol said Aribam Syam Sharma is not only a legendary filmmaker but also a music composer.

The song "Sanaleibak Manipur", he composed is still sung as the State's song.

His works must be preserved for future generations, Dr Bimol said.

Parthajit Baruah said the book was launched in Canada on September 27 last.

It is the first book on North East cinema history to be published internationally, he said.

Aribam Syam Sharma is one of India's finest filmmakers.

His film, Imagi Ningthem was the first film from the North East to win an international award.

Writing a book on his work is not an easy responsibility, he added.

A 30-minute documentary titled "Aribam Syam Sharma (2005)" and a 60-minute fictional film "Asangba Nongjabi (2003)" written by MK Binodini were shown at the event.

The documentary "Aribam Syam Sharma" is directed by Gurumayum Nirmal Sharma.

"Asangba Nongjabi" is directed by Aribam Syam Sharma.
