Padma Shri awarded to Yumnam Jatra Singh

Imphal, January 25 2026: Yumnam Jatra Singh of Manipur has been awarded Padma Shri posthumously in recognition of his contributions in the field of Art.

Nata Sankirtana specialist Yumnam Jatra is among 113 awarded the award this year.

Yumnam Jatra was born on September 12, 1923 at Tendongyan Awang Leikai.

He received his Post Diploma in Nat Eshei and Diploma in Cholom from Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur dance Academy Manipur.

He was a visiting guru of the JNMDA and was Eshei Hanba of Shree Gobindaji Pala Naha.

He received several honours and recognition such as the Royal Robe from the wife of Maharaja Bodhachandra; and the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award in 2013 .

Yumnam Jatra received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award for his contribution to nata Sankirtana.

Significantly, 5 police officers from Manipur have also been awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry, one DSP has been awarded the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and seven servicemen have been awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service.

Those who have been awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry include Assistant Sub-Inspector Langoljam Lenin Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sidarth Thokchom, Havildar Thounaojam Nichal Singh, Rifleman Kumam Prema-nanda Singh and Constable Ngasepam Vim Singh.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shashikumar Singh Khuraijam has been awarded the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

Seven personnel who have been awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service include Superintendent of Police Manbindhu Singh Rajkumar, Commandant Dr Ibomcha Singh Sarangthem, Assistant Commandant Kshetrimayum Prasanta Kumar Singh, Havildar Nehkholal Gangte, Rifleman Premchand Singh Chung-kham, Assistant Sub-Ins- pector Bijen Singh Pu-khrambam and Rifleman Kamlemsang.

This year, the President approved conferment of 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards.
