Ningol Chakkouba celebrated across Manipur

Ningol Chakkouba, one of the biggest festivals of the Meiteis, was observed across the State yesterday with members of different communities participating in grand celebrations.
A special day for Ningols (married women), the Ningol Chakkouba is celebrated on the 2nd day of the Meitei lunar month Hiyangei.
Members of Thadou community, Naga and internally displaced women staying in relief camps took part in the Ningol Chakkouba festival, organised in different parts of the State.
Thadou Inpi Manipur general secretary Michael Lamjathang Haokip took part in the festival at Kakwa Lamdaibung yesterday.
The Ningol Chakkouba celebration was organised by the All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) .
AMESCO president W Chinglemba, motivational speaker Dr Dhanabir Laishram, Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Pul Manipur general secretary Apabi, Maring Uparup Assembly president Yaima, Chiru Naga Union president Neichung, Imphal Naga Forum president Ambition, Kharam Naga Union president J Thangsinai, Thangal Union president RK Philip, Mao Union president Dr Punilosii and Kabui Union vice president Lanbon Kabui among others took part in the celebration.
AMESCO has been celebrating Ningol Chakkouba as "Eche Echal Singbu Ningsingba Numit" since 1993 .
The Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) Centre Church celebrated the Ningol Chakkouba festival for the 25th year at the Church premises yesterday.
Chandel AC MLA SS Olish attended the event, organised by the Church's Ningol Ministry.
Christian women of the hills married to men in the valley took part in the celebration.
A grand feast, traditional dance and music performances marked the event.
Tangkhul Church Delhi Pastor Dr Mathanmi Zirnik and other heads and members of the Church attended the celebration.
Yumsharol Enterprises celebrated the Ningol Chakkouba with internally displaced women staying at Sawombung and Sajiwa relief camps.
Simple gifts were presented to the women, and as part of the celebration, three lucky women were selected through a lottery and given a television and an electric heater each.
During the celebration, Yumsharol Enterprises advisor Laishram Satyabrata urged the womenfolk and people staying in relief camps not to be disheartened.
He encouraged them to stay strong and said it is the duty of all the people to work unitedly to end their suffering.
Senjam Khunou Development Club (SKDC) celebrated the Ningol Chakkouba festival with women from different communities at Senjam Khunou community hall today.
Sekmai AC MLA Heikham Dingo attended the celebration.
Women from different communities who are married to the Meitei community, differently abled women and those who couldn't go to their parental homes due to the present crisis attended the celebration.
During the celebration, the MLA wished for the auspicious festival to foster unity and peace.
Naharol Welfare Club celebrated the festival at Sagolband Kangabam Leikai Community Hall.
Women from different indigenous communities took part in the celebration.
The Ningol Chakkouba festival was also celebrated by the Manipuri diaspora outside Manipur as well.
Notably, the Korea Manipuri Association had celebrated the Ningol Chakkouba at Jeonju, South Korea on October 3 .
It was celebrated well ahead of October 23, considering the availability of community members residing across different parts of South Korea.
The gathering brought together Manipuris from various regions in a joyful celebration of culture, unity, and shared heritage, said KMA in a statement.
A special highlight of the event was the introduction of the "Laibak Fabi KMA Ningol" title, an honor recognizing grace, cultural pride, and contribution within the community.
Miss Monita was awarded the 2025 KMA Laibak Fabi Ningol title, it added.
