Bishnupur, June 21 2025:
As Central Forces deployed by the Indian Government to maintain peace in the strifetom State have reportedly failed to perform their duties, the only option left for Meiteis is to defend themselves, said Peace Committee Kangleipak Manipur advisor and former rebel leader Ningthemcha Sanayaima.
He made the remark while visiting the residence of N Biren who was shot on his left arm by Kuki militants on June 12 near Moirang high canal of Loktak Lift Irrigation, Phubala Maning under Moirang Police Station.
He met with the spouse of the farmer and extended financial aid to the family.
Additionally, the former chairman of UNLF also inspected the site where the incident took place.
According to the villagers, the SSB personnel stationed in the area did not return fire even after learning that the Kuki militants had launched a gun attack, said Sanayaima.
He pointed out that Kuki militants were able to cross three security barriers/check-points to fire at Meitei farmers and added that the public can understand the rationale behind this.
Highlighting the possibility of similar incidents in other areas, he added that the villagers have no weapons to defend themselves and rely on security forces to protect them.
People injured in such incidents should not be left to fend for themselves.
The public should extend their help and support to them, he said.
Sanayaima was accompanied by Rajesh Meitei, president, Peace Committee Kangleipak Manipur and Committee members along with meira paibis from Phubala during the visit.
