Speaking at the meeting, Joint Co-ordinating Committee of Scheme Workers Union Manipur, Imphal West & East District Committee convenor K Tampha Devi said that ASHA, Anganwadi and Mid Day Meal workers are scheme workers playing an integral role in the delivery of various Government initiatives related to child development, healthcare, and education.
"The demands of scheme workers are clear, their struggle is justified, and the Government's inaction is indefensible", said Tampha Devi while urging the Government to increase the honorariums of the scheme workers as done in other States.
"Scheme workers are seeking access to social security benefits like health insurance, retirement pensions, and other welfare measures, similar to regular Government employees.
This would provide them with a safety net and financial security", she added.
Denouncing the lack of response from the Government despite the numerous appeals, she asserted that the Government should take the demands of scheme workers seriously and initiate a constructive dialogue to find a resolution.
Furthermore, Tampha Devi urged the Government to recognize the important role these workers play in the implementation of various Government schemes and to ensure that their contributions are acknowledged and rewarded.
