Imphal, May 15 2025:
Zeme Council, Northeast India (ZC-NEI) issued clarification on the Zeliangrong issue stating that the prevailing confusion may mislead the Zeliangrong populace.
In a release, ZCNEI reaffirmed commitment to supporting and strengthening Zeliangrong community, as resolved in its general assembly at Laisong, Assam and pledged to further mandate the Zeliangrong Baudi and its constituent units.
Explaining that Zeliangrong community comprises three main kindred tribes: Zeme, Liangmai, and Rongmei, united by their shared history, culture, and linguistic roots, it reminded that the term 'Zeliangrong' was coined in 1947 to promote unity and solidarity among these tribes.
"Our forefathers built a legacy of pride and reputation through Zeliangrong patriotism.
We are committed to protecting and preserving the unique Zeliangrong identity," the release affirmed.
Opposing any attempts to eradicate or supplant Zeliangrong nomenclature, which would compromise the ancestral legacy, the council urged affiliated units, Zeme Council Assam, Zeme Council Nagaland, and Zeme Naga Council Manipur, to lend support to the Zeliangrong Baudi, fostering solidarity and cooperation.
ZCNEI exhorted the kindred tribes to uphold the unity and pride of the Zeliangrong people and strengthen the collective Zeliangrong identity.
