Imphal, October 14 2025:
The second round of the National Deworming Day 2025 was launched at the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Lamphel today.
The launch programme was jointly organised by the Directorate of Health Services, Manipur and the State Health Society, NHM, Manipur.
Directorate of Health Services, Manipur Director Dr N Hemanta Kumar Singh, State Mission Director NHM Manipur Dr M Dinesh, Social Welfare Department's Joint Director Anjali Chongtham and Education (s) Director Ng Bhogendra attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr N Hemanta Kumar said, the deworming programme has been launched to combat soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections among children.
The soil-transmitted helminth (STH) worms deprive children of nutrients by feeding on the host's tissues and blood, causing malabsorption of nutrients, and competing directly for nutrients in the intestines, he said.
The presence of these intestinal parasites in the body can lead to a range of health problems including impairments in physical, intellectual, and cognitive development, Dr N Hemanta Kumar said.
Notably, children aged 1 to 2 years are given a single dose of deworming drug Albendazole 200 mg tablet.
Children aged 2-19 years are given a single dose of Albenzole 400 mg tablet.
Dr Hemanta Kumar said the first round of the National Deworming Day programme in March covered 93 percent of the 8 lakh children targeted.
The second round will aim to cover 9 lakh children, he added.
Children were administered deworming drugs at the programme.
